Garry's Mod December 2025 Patch Fixes Kicks and Saves

The Garry's Mod December 2025 patch fixes kick reasons, corrupted map loading crashes, save loading with Nextbots, and Hammer level-design tools.

Facepunch Studios has released the Garry's Mod December 2025 patch to resolve regressions introduced in the November Update alongside several targeted engine fixes. According to Steam, the developers advise both clients and Sandbox server hosts to deploy the update at their earliest convenience.

Server Administration and Kick Handling Updates

Administrative commands and player removal routines received notable internal attention to fix message corruption issues.

Overhauled Kick Systems

The console command kickid was reimplemented from scratch. This overhaul aims to eliminate problems where kicked players saw corrupted reasons upon disconnection. A regression in CBasePlayer::Kick that produced unusual kick messages was resolved, and the internal operations of Player:Kick and game.KickID were rewritten to align consistently with each other.

Linux Mounting and Addon Adjustments

On the filesystem side, floating addons that previously failed to mount on Linux systems have been fixed. The engine also ceases trying to load save files originating from mountable games, preventing unnecessary file conflicts during startup.

Crashes and Engine Stability

Several severe crashes that could drop players or halt local sessions were targeted.

Save Files and Nextbot Crashes

Loading Source Engine save files containing Nextbots no longer triggers an unexpected game crash. In addition, crashes that occurred when loading corrupted maps containing bad overlays have been rectified.

Particle Effects and Model Integrity

A regression affecting Entity:CreateParticleEffect when receiving tables was corrected. The asset models/cs_fix.mdl will now load after being repaired from a corrupted state. In multiplayer, prop gibs previously ceased spawning entirely after the 300th instance; this limit bug has been cleared.

Map Creation and World Entity Logic

Level design utilities and environmental triggers saw revisions that affect Hammer workflows and interactable entities.

Hammer Editor Adjustments

Decals that failed to render inside Hammer have been repaired. Model scaling has returned to prop_dynamic within the editor. For button configurations, min_use_angle now defaults to 0.8 instead of 0 in Hammer, mirroring an engine change where m_flUseLookAtAngle for func_button defaults to 0.8.

Physics and Tool Fixes

Physics rescaling is now restricted to prop_physics and sent_anim. A client-side tracking failure involving func_proprrespawnzone was resolved. Community contributions resolved two tool behaviours: the tool GhostEntity is no longer recreated every single tick across certain tools, and the Motor tool's torque axis calculation was fixed when a motor is rotated before its initial activation.

NPC Behaviours, Weapons, and Gamemode Fixes

Combat interactions and asset animations received dedicated fixes across standard entities.

NPC Firing and Mine Relationships

Certain NPCs, including Alyx and Citizens, no longer fire two bullets per single pistol shot, and Alyx no longer spawns reload shells when firing the .357 Magnum. Combine Mine logic now respects Ignore Player and Disable AI settings. Combine Mines will not target Combine Gunships, Manhacks, or Stalkers, while consistently targeting Barnacles and Half-Life 1 Xen Aliens. In the killfeed, the Resistance Mine displays its intended name.

Visuals, Ropes, and Interface Errors

Player models for the Zombine and Combine Soldier without armour were updated to correct animation errors. Client D.O.G. ragdolls no longer leave lingering ropes upon being deleted. Cable_DX8 was added to the rope shader whitelist used by default materials, and passing an empty string "" for a rope material no longer throws a server Lua error.

For interfaces, gamemodes derived from Sandbox that disable the spawnmenu no longer generate Lua errors when players attempt to open it, and Lua errors occurring when launching specific maps from the main menu were stopped.

What Server Hosts Must Do

Server operators hosting Garry's Mod Sandbox servers need to download the update and restart their dedicated instances. Hosts who previously experienced garbled kick notifications will see cleaner results when moderating players. Linux hosts relying on floating addons should verify that their mount directories load cleanly. The patch notes do not report any direct configuration variable deprecations or database schema updates.

What Players Will Notice

Players browsing the Garry's Mod server list will experience fewer client crashes when connecting to maps with damaged overlays. Gunplay around friendly NPCs will feel standard again without duplicate pistol rounds being fired. Builders using motors will find rotation axes behave predictably, and players testing niche Garry's Mod gamemodes with restricted spawnmenus will no longer see Lua error popups on screen.

Common questions

Why were kick messages showing up corrupted in Garry's Mod?
A regression inside CBasePlayer::Kick resulted in garbled disconnection text. The developers reimplemented the kickid console command from scratch and reworked Player:Kick and game.KickID internals to keep them consistent.
Do dedicated server hosts need to apply this update?
Yes, Facepunch recommended that Sandbox servers and clients update at their earliest convenience to resolve Lua errors, Linux mounting issues, and map loading crashes.
What changed with Combine Mines in this patch?
Combine Mines now respect Ignore Player and Disable AI settings. They will no longer attack Combine Gunships, Manhacks, or Stalkers, but they will always attack Barnacles and Xen Aliens from Half-Life 1.
